The Faculty of Architecture, Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute successfully conducted the Rural Study Viva Voce for B.Arch students, providing an opportunity to present their comprehensive understanding of rural environments, vernacular architecture, and sustainable community living.
As part of the rural study program, students undertook extensive field visits, documentation, and research to analyze the unique characteristics of rural settlements. Their presentations highlighted key aspects such as traditional building practices, local construction materials, climate-responsive design strategies, community spaces, cultural heritage, and the socio-economic dynamics that shape rural lifestyles.
Through detailed surveys, sketches, photographs, case studies, and analytical observations, students examined how indigenous knowledge systems and vernacular architecture have evolved in harmony with local climates, available resources, and cultural traditions. The presentations demonstrated an appreciation for sustainable design principles that have been practiced for generations and continue to offer valuable lessons for contemporary architecture.
The viva session encouraged meaningful discussions on the importance of preserving traditional building techniques while addressing present-day challenges in rural development. Students explored the role of architects in promoting environmentally responsible, socially inclusive, and culturally sensitive design solutions that contribute to the overall well-being of rural communities.
The jury members commended the students for their in-depth research, critical analysis, and thoughtful presentations. The session served as a valuable academic platform for exchanging ideas, strengthening research skills, and understanding the significance of architecture in shaping sustainable rural futures.
The Faculty of Architecture congratulates all participating students for their dedication, hard work, and insightful contributions. We also extend our sincere gratitude to the jury members and faculty for their expert guidance, constructive feedback, and continued support in nurturing future architects committed to sustainable and community-centered design.
