The Faculty of Architecture (FoA), Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute, successfully conducted an insightful workshop as part of the UNEP – United Nations Environment Programme Heat-Mitigation Initiative, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
The workshop brought together the 4th and 5th Year undergraduate architecture students for an engaging learning experience focused on the importance of climate-responsive approaches in architectural design. The session provided students with an opportunity to explore practical strategies for addressing heat-related challenges and creating more sustainable built environments.
The workshop featured an inspiring panel of industry experts:
- Ar. Suhasini Ayer – Principal Architect, Auroville Design Consultants
- Ar. Benny Kuriakose – Founder, Benny Kuriakose and Associates
- Ar. Jeba Miracle Inba Zerah M – Technical Lead – Building Energy Efficiency, AVC Auroville Consulting
Through insightful discussions and expert interactions, students explored key concepts such as passive cooling, heat mitigation, building energy efficiency, and climate-responsive design. The experts shared valuable perspectives from professional practice, encouraging students to look beyond conventional design approaches and consider how architecture can respond effectively to changing climatic conditions.
The interactive nature of the workshop encouraged students to think critically and creatively about sustainable design solutions. It also highlighted the role of architects in creating spaces that are not only functional and aesthetically meaningful but also responsive to environmental challenges.
