The Faculty of Architecture, Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute, organized an engaging Design Thinking exercise for first-year B.Arch and B.Des students, conducted by Ar. Rajalakshmi Selvaraj. The session aimed to introduce students to the fundamentals of design thinking and encourage them to approach everyday challenges with creativity and innovation.

As part of the activity, students participated in an interactive canteen design challenge. They explored different ideas, understood user needs, evaluated possible solutions, and developed creative approaches to designing a functional and user-friendly canteen space.

The exercise provided students with an opportunity to apply design thinking principles through practical learning. It encouraged them to think beyond conventional ideas, identify challenges, share perspectives, and work collaboratively towards developing effective design solutions.

The activity also helped students strengthen essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, creativity, and decision-making. By transforming simple concepts into practical design possibilities, students gained a better understanding of how design thinking can be applied to real-world situations.

Such interactive learning experiences reflect the Faculty of Architecture’s commitment to nurturing creative minds and developing future architects and designers through hands-on activities, innovation, and collaborative learning.

The session was a valuable learning experience, inspiring students to think creatively, explore new possibilities, and turn their ideas into meaningful design solutions.
