Our architectural journey reached its pinnacle on Day 3 as students visited the historic Western Group of Temples in Khajuraho, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This day was a perfect blend of learning, exploration, and admiration for India’s rich architectural heritage.

The students were captivated by the intricate carvings and architectural grandeur of the temples, which stand as a testament to the artistic brilliance of the Chandela dynasty. Each temple told a story, with sculptures and designs reflecting themes of spirituality, nature, and human connection.

Walking through the complex, students gained a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship and engineering marvels of ancient India. The experience offered invaluable insights into the techniques and principles that continue to inspire modern architecture.

Next, the group headed to the Eklavya Foundation, an inspiring organization dedicated to education and social development. The visit provided insights into impactful grassroots initiatives that are shaping communities for the better.

The day concluded at the National Institute of Design (NID), where students explored cutting-edge design concepts and innovative approaches that are redefining creativity and functionality.

From governance to social change and design, Day 2 was a blend of education, inspiration, and interdisciplinary learning.

Next, they explored the timeless beauty of the Sanchi Stupa, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The visit provided a deeper understanding of Buddhist architecture and its historical significance.

The day continued at Bharat Bhavan, a creative hub showcasing art, literature, and performing arts, inspiring students with its vibrant atmosphere.

Finally, a visit to the Tribal Museum offered an immersive experience into India’s diverse tribal heritage, showcasing traditional art, culture, and lifestyle.

This Diwali, the Eco Club at the Faculty of Architecture, Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute, embraced the true spirit of the festival—spreading joy and kindness. In collaboration with the Magizhvi Welfare Trust, the club organized a heartwarming Diwali Food Drive as part of our Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR) initiatives.

The drive provided breakfast and lunch to 1,000 individuals, bringing festive warmth to the community and addressing the pressing issue of hunger. This initiative reflected our belief that being architects of change goes beyond designing buildings—it’s about creating a better, more compassionate world.

By uniting efforts for a noble cause, the students and faculty demonstrated the importance of giving back to society. The Diwali Food Drive was not just an act of charity but a celebration of community spirit and shared humanity.

The Faculty of Architecture recently organized an inter-disciplinary hands-on activity on waterproofing for water retaining structures, providing our 2nd-year B.Arch students with an enriching practical experience.

As part of the activity, students were given a guided tour of the in-house construction site, where they observed real-time applications of waterproofing techniques. From material selection to layering processes, the students explored how effective waterproofing plays a crucial role in the durability and functionality of structures.

This live demonstration allowed students to delve into the engineering, environmental, and design aspects of waterproofing, offering a comprehensive understanding of how these systems are integrated into construction projects.

Such practical exposure not only bridges the gap between theory and application but also equips students with skills and knowledge critical for their future in architecture.
